Top 10 Horse Training Procedure For New Horse Owner

Horse training may be described as the specific teaching to your horse basing on purpose by a human being. The training of horses started in the very early days mainly for the war and agricultural work. But at present days horses are primarily trained for horseback riding, equestrians, sports and in the circus. In the military, horses are mainly prepared for recreational purpose and honor of previous history the horses. In police, horses are primarily trained for controlling riot, crowd, and patrolling.

There are many controversies on equine training as present days because horses are mainly used for horse racing. As per the recommendation of the animal welfare association, racing is the most vital sector of horse abuse. In my article, I shall discuss briefly on various types of horse training for a new horse owner.

What You Know Before Horse Training


There is some essential horse information you must know as a horse trainer at the very outset of starting training. This knowledge will help you make the decision and select the necessary steps for horse training.

1. Know Your Horse


At the very beginning of training, you must collect the necessary data of your horse. These include horse breeds, age, health condition, ancestral history, horse anatomy, feeding, breeding, care, and management.

2. Quality of Horse


The horse you select must be physically fit, psychologically well balanced, and clinically healthy for receiving the basic training lesson.

3. Horse Behavior Study


As a horse trainer and horse owner, you must know the behavior state of your horse before going for training. The ill-behaved horse should be treated in a special way. 4. Safety Procedures


Accidents during the training of horses are very common, but you can easily prevent it by taking adequate safety precautions. As a horse trainer, horse training should be started in a secure place with safety equipment. All belongings should be adequately fixed in horseback and head.

5. What Not to Do For Horse Training?


As a horse trainer never fears about your horse. Make a friendly relationship with your horse before starting training. At the very initial stage of training, never go for any punishment. This will be very detrimental to horse training.

Classification of Horse Training


The horse may be trained in many different disciplines basing on the requirement and uses. There are some basic training which requires for every horse like remount training. Some training events are special and as per their usage. Some horse training is for the rider of the horse to become a horseman. In my article, I have chosen the ten most common training classes for the new horse owner.

1. Remount Training


Remount equine training is the foundation training for young horses. The term remount training is mainly used for military horses. In an army stable, a young colt is taken to remount training. The average duration of remount training ranges from 39-51 weeks in different military Remount training institutions.

2. School Work by Horse


Schoolwork in horse training mainly originated from English riding. There is a specific pattern of school work training for horses. The rider trained his horse in a small area of the training ground. This place is also called “Riding School.” A trained horse rider can ride his horse in a specific pattern. By the school work of horses, the horse becomes more docile and physically fit.

3. Horse Training: English Riding


English riding is a particular type of training of horses that originated in England. This type of training was confined in Britain up to the 19th century. Nowadays, English riding is well known in many countries like Canada, France, Italy, Asia, and Australia. The fundamental difference of English Riding from Western riding is holding the horse rein in two hands. Whereas in Western riding, the horse reins hold by one hand.

4. Dressage


Dressage is a unique discipline of equine training. The term dressage is widely used in Olympic and other regional sports competition. In dressage horse riding widely seen hunters/humpers, endurance or eventing pattern of training. In this system of horse riding, the horse gait in a harmonious and fluid movement by the desire of rider.

5. Equestrianism


The horses are trained for a specific purpose and works. The term equestrianism denotes horseback riding, dressage, tent pegging, eventing, show jumping, and many more activities. The equestrian sports first introduced in Olympic in 1900 AD. Still, in present-day, equestrian sports are the most popular events throughout the world. 6. Spanish Riding School


The Spanish Riding School is located in Viena, Austria. The school is mainly established for the training of Lipizzan horses. In Spanish Riding School, training of horses is performed in three stages. Now the school play a tour in different countries and shows their trained horses. Horsemanship is the science of care of the horse under all conditions in the field or stables. It aims at continuously keeping the most significant possible number of horses fit for work, and reducing inefficiency to a minimum by the prevention of horse diseases.

8. Western Riding


Western riding is a particular type of training that is traditional to Americans. The style of training is mainly ranching and warfare purposes. The American cowboys train their horses for hunting. They need to stay on horseback for a more extended period, and horses are trained in such away.

9. Longeing


Longeing is a type of punishment given to horses during training. In this training, the horse is asked to walk or run in a specific place. The horse is tied with a long rope or longe and command to walk or trotting. It is also used to make calm of wild or rough horses before taking it for training or riding. In many cases, to give the punishment of uncontrolled horse, Longeing is performed.

10. Cross-country Horse Training


The cross-country riding training of horses is a general form of horse education. This method is widely used in draft horses. In cross country training, the horses must be extremely physically fit to cross the long distance. Different obstacles are laid at a considerable distance and horses are cross with enthusiasm.
