History and Origin of Chinese Shar-Pei


The Chinese Shar-Pei dog is believed to be the oldest breed. The dog breed originated in the small village of Tai Li in the Guangdong Province during the Han Dynasty ( c. 200 B.C.E. ). The Shar-Pei dog statue resembles the Chinese culture from this period. The wrinkled dog looks like Shar-Pei found a 13th-century Chinese manuscript.

The tongue and lips are bluish-black. The dog breed is found in two types of coats; longer and shorter. The longer coat is one inch higher than, the shorter coat. The color of the dog’s coat may be any solid color or sable.

The literal translation of Shar-Pei is “sand-skin “or, more loosely, “rough, sandy coat “or “sandpaper-like coat.”
